Beyond Sleep Matters (chronic fatigue)

Man, it has been a super busy time for me the last couple of months, as I'm taking several continuing education courses on stress management and trauma recovery using somatic therapies, so I apologize for missing a newsletter here and there. I'm doing my best so I don't overwork myself, that is very important for our health to do our best while we don't overwork (stress) or our bodies. Anyways, moving forward with this week's topic, that is fatigue.

We all know how disruptive an awful night's sleep can be the following day. Imagine going months on end and feeling extreme fatigue. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a chronic illness and is challenging to diagnose. From strained relationships with friends and family to feelings of guilt, anxiety, and anger, chronic fatigue can disrupt daily life in many ways. Profound fatigue may also accompany symptoms such as:
  • joint pain that moves from one spot to another
  • muscle pain
  • poor concentration
  • loss of memory
  • enlarged lymph nodes
  • headaches
  • chills
  • night sweats
  • digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome
Sadly, the cause of chronic fatigue is still unknown, but there are ways to combat extreme fatigue.
Research is continually reporting a link between food allergies and sensitivities and chronic fatigue syndrome. According to a study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, IBS, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue are linked, and researchers were surprised. If you suspect any adverse reactions to foods, eliminate them from your diet. Common offenders include gluten and dairy.
According to a study published in the Journal of Royal Society of Medicine, researchers found a direct link between reduced vitamin B levels and chronic fatigue syndrome. To increase your B Vitamin intake, supplement with B Complex.
Additionally, supplements like vitamin C, omega oils, and herbal adaptogen herbs are essential to recovering from chronic fatigue or adrenal fatigue.
In a study published in the U.K. medical journal The Lancet, chronic fatigue syndrome patients were found to have low magnesium levels that accounted for a low red blood cell count. Food to boost magnesium includes spinach, chard, pumpkin seeds, yogurt, kefir, almonds, black beans, avocados, figs, dark chocolate, and bananas.
Self-care is crucial for addressing chronic fatigue. Allow yourself to slow down throughout the day and take breaks as needed.
