Essential Oils that Balance Hormones

7/15/2019

Hormonal imbalances happen when there is too much or too little of a hormone in the bloodstream. Hormones are essential for regulating most critical bodily processes, like metabolism and appetite, heart rate, sleep cycles, reproductive cycles and sexual function, growth and development, mood and stress levels, and body temperature. Therefore, even a small hormonal imbalance can affect a wide range of bodily functions.

Both men and women can be impacted by an imbalance of hormones like adrenaline, insulin, growth hormones, steroids. Women may also undergo imbalances in estrogen and progesterone levels, while men tend to experience shifts in testosterone levels.
Hormonal imbalances can occur when the endocrine glands are not functioning correctly. Endocrine glands are specific cells that produce, store, and release hormones into the bloodstream. There are various endocrine glands located throughout the body that control different organs, including the:
  • adrenal glands
  • gonads (testis and ovaries)
  • pineal gland
  • pituitary gland
  • hypothalamus gland
  • thyroid and parathyroid glands
  • pancreatic islets
Adrenal glands help us cope with stress by producing the hormone cortisol. When cortisol levels are unbalanced, we can be left feeling tired after a full night of sleep, have trouble remaining calm, and experience brain fog. Basil and lavender essential oil can help you if you are suffering from adrenal fatigue because they increase the body’s natural response to both physical and emotional stress and lavender and rosemary have been shown to lower cortisol levels. Mix a few drops of these essential oils with coconut oil and rub into your forearms or the cartilage above your ear lobe to bring balance to your adrenals.
Additional essential oils that you can use to support adrenals are:
  • Mix spruce, pine, and rosemary in a carrier oil such as coconut oil or olive oil and massage over the lower back for energy.
  • Blend nutmeg, lavender, sweet orange, and valerian in a carrier oil to help to have a good night’s sleep.
  • Lemon, basil, and clary sage can be diffused at your work or in your home to help with concentration.
Thyroid dysfunction can cause symptoms of depression, dry hair and skin, and insomnia. Mix a few drops of Lemongrass essential oil with coconut oil and rub into your foot’s big toe or at the base of your throat.
An estrogen and progesterone imbalance can lead to severe symptoms of PMS, low libido, night sweats, and even hot flashes. Add a few drops of clary sage and geranium to a warm bath. Or dilute a few drops of clary sage in almond oil and rub into ankles to relieve pain.
Of course, there are also many herbs that help balance hormones too, but this email is only about essential oils. If you have any questions or need help balancing hormones, I’m here to support you, email me at: Toni@drToniCamacho.com  Also this month I will be posting daily on my Facebook page and Instagram information on essential oils and recipes.
Regards,
Toni
