How to Make Myrrh Infused Oil

9/8/2017

This is a great oil to use on its own, with essential oils, or to add to ointments and salves. It is anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, astringent and expectorant.

I like what you said about adding ointment to your myrrh oil. I believe that myrrh oil has great medicinal properties. I'll find some myrrh oil for my sister who loves essential oils.

Hi there Doctor
Great website and information.
Making an oil for my Mother who has a wound thats getting infected, and being stubborn to heal

Re the Myrrh infused oil.
Wondering where you sourced the recipe?
I've been reading about how the Egyptians prepared myrrh.
Never heard of the paper towel under the lid and wondering why.?
And what is the reason to put the oil in the dark cupboard after heat?
Does the heating draw all the properties into the oil
Appreciate the answers

Thanks
Freddie

Hi Freddie, you do not need to put the paper towel under the lid. I do it in cases that the lid is not tight. This makes sure nothing gets in there and that the seal is nice.

The traditional way to extract any plant in oil is to put it in a dark space for at least two weeks (two weeks is where you get the max medicinal compounds, after two weeks you get a little bit more but not too much to make a huge difference). Myrrh is a resin so it a little hard to extract, so i like to put it in low heat to help break it down and allow the compounds to into the oil easily.

However, herbalist know that we can speed the process of oil extraction by using the double broiler method on the stove (higher temperature than crockpot but not too high that your herbs are cooking or frying). Technically, that should be enough and you do not have to take the extra step to put in cupboard.

I hope this helps, feel free to email me at ContactToni@drToniCamacho.com if you have more questions

One more thing Freddie, you might want to try oregano essential oil on her wound (diluted). Additionally, she could try also treating it from the inside out with an antimicrobial tinctures. Check out my antimicrobial formulas. The tincture that is call microbial defense and the antimicrobial essential oil. I hope this helps

Hi Freddie, I'm just curious - where are you reading about how the Egyptians prepared myrrh?

And Dr. Toni I love all of this, thanks for sharing! Might you have any resources you recommend for natural ways to prepare fragrances/oils? Thank you!

Hi Doctor Toni
Thanks so much for such a fast and comprehensive reply. I really appreciate your help for my Mother. I read that the Roman soldiers would always take Myrrh in a pouch when they went to war. The myrrh would make sure the wounds from the swords and spears they fought with didn't get infected..
I did as you recommended and put myrrh & oil on a double boiler. I guessed and put 2 ozs myrrh and 8 ozs oil. Hope that is the right amount.
Smells really great. And my Mother says it helps with the pain.
My sister has been giving her raw chopped garlic before lunch...and another herb..is it ecinaca.?..you will know better than me for sure.
I will definatly check out your herbs also, and get my sister to hook up her friends.
Thanks again Doc
Happy Holidays to you and your family
Keep up the great work
Freddie
